THE GUIDE TO GALON®

The history of Didriksons began more than a hundred years ago. At the time, mainly fishermen and sailormen were using garments to keep rain and cold away when working at sea. Since then, waterproof garments have been developed to become light and flexible, making more people using them on rainy days.

In the mid-1900s, when the material Galon® became a great innovation worldwide, we saw the possibility to create rainwear in the durable material. Didriksons’ Galon® rainwear was no longer worn by fishermen at the Swedish west coast, but also by fashionistas all over the world.

Since Galon® garments were introduced, the material has been developed further, and there are several reasons why Galon® is still number one when it comes to waterproof clothing. The material is hardwearing, durable, and easy to maintain.

    CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Easy to keep clean – just wipe off with a damp cloth!
  • In case it needs washing anyway, wash in the machine at 40 °C.
  • Galon® can be damaged if exposed to heat. Please avoid drying cabinets and tumble dryers.
  • Turn your garment inside out if wet, and it will dry quicker.
  • Store the garment hanging or laying flat to not tear at creases.

Galon® should be stored in the right way to keep its functions. Therefore, avoid heat that can cause the material to dry out and harden or other unfavorable conditions where the humidity varies greatly, such as attic storage, basements, or certain closets.

Fully waterproof with welded seams

Galon® is a 100% waterproof and windproof material, and we weld the seams on all Galon® garments. Welded seams mean the garment gets a fully waterproof construction as there aren’t any holes from the seams where water can seep through. Galon® doesn’t need any impregnation or treatment to keep its waterproof abilities.

How waterproof is Galon®?

To measure the water-resistance of rainwear, we use water columns. It is a way to test the level of water pressure that a fabric can withstand before water penetrates it, where a high number means a high level of waterproofness. The water column for our Galon® garments range between 5000 – 8000 mm.
